Sweets The Stinky Poochie

Yeah, it’s one of those posts again. Be sure to grab your tissues.

Now, I like to believe that I’m my wife’s emotional support animal in life, but wasn’t always the case. You see, there was a very special poochie in her life way before we even met. Meet PrincessSparklesTheUnicornF’Days!

Or, like, Y’know, SweetPea for short…because my wife is insane.

Now Sweets and I met loooong ago (in dog years) back when my wife and I were strapping young boyfriend/girlfriends. She was her momma’s pooch, that’s for sure, but much to my wife’s shock she loved me rather quickly!

Basically how my wife knew I was her future husband! I was her daddy! And over the years, Sweets has appeared many times in my doodles .

It’s one of those things where I wasn’t a doggy daddy before I met her, but quickly lodged a stinky and yeasty way into my heart.

Which is why this post is for her, because we had to say goodbye to our Sweets this week.

Dogs are such a bittersweet thing in our lives. They come into our lives and just fill up our hearts so much. They are our family, our fur babies, they mean so much to us. Then they leave us so quickly…way too quickly. They leave a hole in our hearts and home that is impossible to fill.

I’ve said goodbye to many pooches in my life and remember each of them so fondly, but Sweets was something special. She was my wife’s and I’s first baby. She was there when we brought our children home from the hospital, she snuggled our babies, gave them kisses, came to each of our homes over the years.

She was family, and family to my wife before I even came into the picture.

I’m going to miss the way she stunk up and entire room with her yeasty musk, the way she passive aggressively sighed in the corner of the room when her momma and I started to make out, the way she always presented us with a toy (or sock when one couldn’t be found) when we came home, and how she would put the brakes on during walks so I’d have to carry her home.

We love you Sweets, we will miss you always and can’t wait till we see you again. Thank you for being a part of our family forever and more. You were and always be a good girl.

So, until next time,

Stay classy, stay safe, and, above all else,

Stay Grumpy.
