Goodbye Leo

I remembering walking to school my sophomore year of high school and freaking out as something small and skinny scampered out from under a parked car and ran at me. Thinking it was a rat, I fully prepared myself to punt the thing to Asgard should it get any closer. However, it was not a rat, but a puppy. I could see it’s rib cage as it jumped up at me whining and yipping. And that was how me and Leo met.

A red nosed American pitbull followed me home and yet proved to be the sweetest , most affectionate, and laziest dog on the planet. Seriously, he refused to go for walks and drooled like a faucet whenever he wanted some of what I was eating.

No wonder we got along so well.

Well it is on this day that I had to say goodbye to my dearly beloved friend of 15 years. He was old and died in his sleep, so that’s at least something, but still it’s amazing how much of your heart goes into your pet.

Sometimes animals are just something so pure and trustworthy. They never betray your secrets (intentionally. Not discounting times they drag out embarrassing items from under your bed and display them around the house for the world to see), they get so excited just to see you come home, and they love you just so unconditionally that it’s no wonder people get crazy when they get old and hoard a bunch of pets.

Thank you Leo for all the amazing memories and for being such a good boi.

I will miss you my friend.

Stay classy, stay safe, and, above all else,

Stay grumpy.

  1. So sorry to hear about that. My dog’s going blind and is starting to limp from old age and I too am coming to terms with the inevitability of life. Wishing you all the best. Loved your little artwork at the end there.
